I don't know much about Windows ME, but from what I've heard about reading for when I switch to Windows Vista, you....
- Need to have your files saved onto a disk, or have some way of getting them from one computer to another.
- For Norton, you either need the disk it came in to re install, or you need to know how to download it online if you chose a non physical purchase.
Those may have been the instructions for switching files to a new computer, but good luck :-/
Also, congratulations on choosing the Windows XP OS.

It should keep all your old files. I am a die-hard Microsoft fan and every update I have been through has saved whatever I have saved on the hard drive. So enjoy your new verison and keep all your files!
Upgrading from Windows ME can be a real pain. Windows ME uses the FAT32 file system while XP uses NTFS. You will more than likely run into several issues. If I were you I would just get a new hard drive and do a fresh install onto that one while keeping your old drive as a slave so you still have your old files. To autorun your install CD just put it into the computer and restart. If it doesn't boot up (It should, unless you have a floppy drive) hold F5 to go into your BIOS when your system starts. You have to manually change it to read your CD drive when first booting up in order for it to work correctly.
you will probaly have to change your hard drive to.....
You have my Sympathys.
You'd be better off getting Win2K Pro.
As to the Portability issue on your Software.
Both XP and 2KPro will allow you to "Upgrade" instead of
"NEW INSTALL". That is the Only way to keep all your software and settings.
Only Simple way anyway. IM Me if you like for more details.
