make sure that you are getting the monthly security updates. Check your system update regularly and make sure that you are installing everything pertinent to the programs that you have. I have not used an anti-virus in years (I've had a Mac since the 80s), but I am planning to purchase Norton anti virus sometime this summer. (I'm planning on using Windows XP for some projects from work and I don't trust it.)

The best maintenance might be to put it on craigslist and try to get as much money as someone will pay...then buy a real computer.
