A virus on my computer?

My OS is win 2000

virus disable task manager and antivirus. i can't instal any software . when i start any program/software on computer it, can't and gives error then close .

but in safemode i start softwares/applicatin/program but still can not install antivirus to remove virus and task manager still in disable mode

any one knew about this virus even name

might be some important system files are infected with virus, sometimes its not possible to recover infected files.

Best option is u take the backup of ur important data and then format and reinstall ur computer.

OK several things to try...

Boot up in Safe Mode, Run MSCONFIG and disable ALL start up items. Reboot.

Download HijackThis and scan the computer, use google to check each item it finds on the start up list.

Download Ad-Aware and Spybot and try to run them (thin line between Virus and spyware)

Check the Windows\system32 directory (Showing all files). Sort by date, the most recent files should be the wpa files, maybe a couple of perflibs. Anything else with todays date should be seen as suspicious!!

Most AV programs will not install in Safe Mode (they require Windows Installer Service), however AVAST will install. Boot into Safe Mode with networking, download and install. The scanner runs on reboot, it is very slow because it is not running in Windows, but it usually finds the nasties!!

Finally, Trend Micro have an online scanner, that might run.
