My internet browser closes automatically as soon as I go to a website...?

I am running XP, IE7, this hasn't happened before. However before this happened I did go online without a firewall or antivirus on my computer. I'm sure it's a type of spyware but I downloaded quite a few antispyware software and nothing worked. My antivirus AVG doesn't detect anything, neither does NOD32. Any one else had this problem? What software can I use to delete the virus/spyware? Thanks

I'm looking for some help from people who have this problem. I don't actually have the problem, otherwise I would have solved it already. I need help from other users who do.

The issue is that in the Yahoo! Mail client, you cannot compose, reply, or forward messages. The buttons will not work and you do not have a text box to type the message body. Often, you will see a script error in the bottom left hand corner of the Internet Explorer browser.

Please try the following steps one at a time and let me know which resolves the issue:

1. Temporarily and completely disable antivirus.

2. Temporarily and completely disable firewall (both hardware and software).

3. Temporarily and completely disable any antispy software.

4. Run a complete antivirus/antispy scan and remove any infections found.

5. Update Java Virtual Machine.

6. Disable browser add-ons.

7. Lower internet security settings in Internet Explorer.

This is not a problem at all. Here's what you need to do.

1st, don't waste your time with AVG, true sword, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, superantispyware, avast, panda, kaspersky, spyware blaster, bitdefender, spyware guard, windows defender or anything of the sort. Stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they free. They are NOT good.

2nd, You need some of the best software out there. Norton Systemworks is very good. That's the only good software from Norton. I wouldn't recommend Norton Internet security, its not that great. OK several things to try...

Boot up in Safe Mode, Run MSCONFIG and disable ALL start up items. Reboot.

Download HijackThis and scan the computer, use google to check each item it finds on the start up list.

Download Ad-Aware and Spybot and try to run them (thin line between Virus and spyware)

Check the Windows\system32 directory (Showing all files). Sort by date, the most recent files should be the wpa files, maybe a couple of perflibs. Anything else with todays date should be seen as suspicious!!

Most AV programs will not install in Safe Mode (they require Windows Installer Service), however AVAST will install. Boot into Safe Mode with networking, download and install. The scanner runs on reboot, it is very slow because it is not running in Windows, but it usually finds the nasties!!

Finally, Trend Micro have an online scanner, that might run.

I can only tell you my experience from buying a competitors version spyware doctor. The version I bought on cd for one computer worked perferctly but the version I downloaded and bought through the web always results in a dll error half way through the scan and you just have to hit the ok button. Both works the same except for the pause.

256 video ram (on a seperate video card) is pretty good, but if you are doing a lot of video rendering or editing, you may want to consider more!

3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

4. That last area is a hardware drivers. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestion and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing.

See if your anti-virus can remove it.
Boot your computer with a Windows 2000 or Windows XP startup disk.

Select the option to recover files.

Then select the operating system you wish to boot up into.

Once you get to the recovery console, it will be a DOS prompt.

Find the file then and delete it .

Then reboot.

There is an easy procedure to delete a .dll file:

1. In Start Menu\Run type this line: regsvr32 /u "Dll full path".

2. This command used to unregister .dll files.

3. Try now to delete the .dll file manually.

You must be sure that this .dll file is not a System .dll file.

I have adobe photoshop CS installed. It was working fine until yesterday.

I created some file (a text withe some effects) and saved it in the the photoshop format. When i opened it - it did not open. The photoshop would load the plugins and fonts,etc... and then it would not respond.

I deleted the file and then opened photoshop but still the same problem.

Then i uninstalled photoshop from the add-remove, restarted my pc and installed it again BUT stil lthe same problem.

It will load uptil the plugins,fonts, etc.....But it will not open photoshop - "Not Responding".

I even scanned my pc with antivirus and also with other cleaner software...after that also i get the same problem.

Easiest fix for me on any "worked yesterday" problems is to roll back to an earlier day on your computer. System Restore - pick a date it worked and give it a shot. It will undo harmful changes that occur and it stores a backup prior to any changes in programs.
Check to make sure that you have all of the .dll files for Photoshop CS. If worse comes to worst and it still doesn't work do a system restore and try again.

If you are using XP it has a built in firewall. I find this works very well. Definitely uninstall everything Norton, it gets very heavy handed.

I've been using plain old Symantec Anti-Virus (also called Norton Anti-Virus for the home market) for over 10 years. It works great. But then again I've never had a virus either. It isn't just important to have ant-virus but also to practice safe computing (i.e. don't read emails from people you don't recognize, use strong passwords, use a web browser other than internet explorer, be careful of what you click on, etc). If you practice safe computing then you can actually get away without using any anti-virus, spyware remover/blockers, personal firewalls, etc.

I Think u have formatted ur flash drive. U have hidden folder in flash drive named 'system' which holds all ur in built programs like virus scanner some games etc. U should backup this folder before u format ur flash drive. Now u had to download all the softwares. U don't need to format ur flash drive just delete the files instead.

Those who advise you to format your hard drive, or reload your software, are insane and should be ignored. It is RARELY necesary for you to do either. Just clean the machine of the offending programs.

Three options are available to you that I know will work.

1) Go to the local store and buy a copy of either Norton or McAfee anti-virus. Install and run the software to clean out any virus you may have. Since your machine is already infected, you can not just go to a web site with free anti-virus programs, as the virus will likely not let you download the program.

One thing you might do is take out the purchased anti-virus program and see what happens. Run belarc to see what you actually have in the computer. It tells all. The cnet and pcworld are sites that are informative sites about computers and Vista problems included.

You might do a restore and go back as far as you can. You have to go step by step. Example, do a complete recovery. Then only load one or two programs that you really need and see what happens. See how the computer runs before you install the other program if it freezes or not. anyway, cnet and pcworld will have stuff on the Vista problems. Next time, list computer model and brand. Some computers are known to have certain problems. Makes it easier to diagnose.

I think you've got too much. Switch to just Spyware Doctor and Spybot-Search and Destroy. These programs are the best anti-spyware programs out there, in my opinion (and they're free). As for anti-virus, try switching to AVG. AVG is a lot more efficient and more user-friendly.

I have norton antivirus and when i was using the internet, i got a popup that said malicious software detected or something similar. may be i must have intalled some unknown software in my system. When my antivirus detects the virus it shows the folder which has it and that folder is in 'program files' . i DID have 4 trojans but managed to delete 3 of them... the last one won't let me to delete it. it comes up with an error saying:

I have a problem with a near-new computer. Somehow I got a self-replicating spyware or virus that is hidden itself in the Windows Temp folder and keeps growing more files. It has been classified by all my security software as "Adware." I ran my antivirus and spyware programs (BitDefender, SpySweeper and other free spyware/virus programs I have) and nothing seems to get rid of it. CCleaner can't delete these files either. I think that either BitDefender or SpySweeper tried to quarantine the suspect virus or spyware and was unable to. If I right-click on any of these files and click "delete" I get "Can't read from source file or disk." Every time I have tried to re-run the scans, the files have duplicated themselves. At this point I am up to about 1,000 files and over 200MB. They are all in the C:\Windows\Temp folder so I think I can safely delete them. My CD-ROM drive will not work. My computer isn't seeing it. The light comes on the actual cd drive, it spins, operates as it should as far as that goes. It's listed in Device Manager. There's a yellow exclamation point over the driver icon. I cannot update the driver because Windows Update shuts down my browser each time it attempts to read the Windows Update Software. CD drives do break, often. I wouldn't be surprised if you need to buy a new one. If this is not the case (ir is a new drive) then try to open your PC and physically remove the power to it and then plug it back in and turn your PC on. It shold find the new hardware and try to reinstall it. Otherwise, I sugggest the first part of this. In my line of work I see CD drives go all the time.

once it opens, select startup tab and uncheck the programs that you don't want to run at system startup. Save it and restart your computer. Once you restart your computer, you will get a warning message saying that you are troubleshooting your computer using customer settings or something like that, just check (do not show this message again) and that's about it.

It keeps telling me that I need to download a newer anti-spyware software. I have already installed Norton Antivirus 2008 with antispyware. Norton cannot detect anything wrong. I'm actually working on another person's machine, it's a fully updated Xp home Vaio with 512 Mb of Ram, plenty of harddrive space, and a fully working internet connection.

His computer appeared to be "slow lately" so I was firing up my flash drive with it's bag of tricks. No go. Add new hardware came up, refused to find new drivers even when pointed manually to /system32 or /system, nothing.

So I uninstalled the USB devices, having read that works (apparently, no other new USB devices worked for this guy)

The USB hubs will not reinstall either. Nor will a simple flash card reader I removed through device manager. Windows update finds nothing, rebooting does nothing. He has only one harddrive (with an unmounted partition for system backups, must be a Vaio thing) and one DVD drive.

Software: He had a spyware scanner from TrendMicro which I replaced with windows defender. During this process, I also installed AVG antivirus. No firewalls, or other odd security software at all.

try finding the drivers for the laptop and see if it has drivers for its USB devices... if this thing doesnt help, guess you will have to reinstall windows to know for sure that its not an OS problem but rather a hardware issue.

if something is being downloaded then it is normal for a small amount of upload traffic it is part of the communication protocol.

check msconfig and see what is starting up first there may be another program doing updates.

It may be anything. Just look out for any third party softwares installed on your p c. Some s/w have an in built feature to transmit data to their relevant websites including real player...
From my experience once microsoft download starts a download it will continue downloading the selected files even after you turn of the selection. It will not start a new slection but will continue with the old one to the bitter end

I know this....follow these steps carefully..u can remove this easily:

I have used opensuse for some time now and only used mandriva a few times, so this is a bit of a biased answer, but I would go for Opensuse 10.3, if you get the whole 5 CDs or DVD make sure you download the addons which will get stuff like video playback using encrypted formats. Your spec should run but if you ask questions about Linux you should include the make of things like your video card, because if its Nvidia or ATI you will need to install drivers to get full 3D acceleration. I've never had a sound card that didn't work with suse so you should be OK.

Linux doesn't need antivirus software or for that matter antispyware, although ClamAV antivirus will check for windows virus in case you pass it on to a windows machine, it comes with opensuse as does a pre configured firewall, also opensuse has about 1800 to 2000 free software packages that come with it which will do everything from running office software, including microsoft office using wine to using your machine as a server so you won't be short of software, also there is a huge amount of open source software free on the internet.

The only network I have is a home nework consisting of a cable modem and router. Everything was working fine a few days ago and it seemed to have started when I upgraded my McAfee antivirus. I've tried reinstalling my activesync software and have uninstalled McAfee but still will not fully sync. When I dock the pda my pc sees it and opens activesync but does not fully sync everything. Do you open Outlook before starting synchronisation?

If you don't then do so. Your PC may have got itself into the same state as mine where it will only Synchronise these items if Outlook is actually open and running at the time. I've never found the reason for this, nor have I been able to fix it but at least I can still synchronise.

Norton and Mcafee are the only reliable ones I know of that aren't "freeware".

Yes they do slow down your computer (because things constantly run in the background to ensure that you're protected), but would you rather sacrifice a little speed or risk geting a virus?

P.S. Microsoft also has a new program (Windows Live Onecare). I'm not sure about it's performance, but it is about $30 (I think), and you can download a free 90 day trial at microsoft.com.
You may want to consider getting an internet security suite. This will house both antivirus/antispyware products with the addition of other safety programs.

By using a security suite, you cut down on the amount of conflict that can occur when you are using multiple software.

clear your cookies, internet files, history, and downloaded files...

Do a disk clean and a defrag, look for progs that load at start which you do not use...

Wow what a flame thred there Jaustin. You attack the guy for being right? I think 512 RAM is small I have 1024 RAM (which is double 512) my system has been great since I added memory. I spent a lot of time looking for problems and simply adding more RAM immediately fixed the problem...

click on CPU to sort it in order and see if any task is specifically hogging the CPU.

Clicking on PERFORMANCE, any healthy system should hover around 0-5% CPU USAGE given your specs if you don't run too many services or applications.

512MB is well above requirements. The previous person is wrong to suggest you need double. Given your specs your system should run with no problems.

BTW the link he gave you was for Internet bandwidth which makes no difference on how slow your system may be running.

Hardware firewalls are always better than software ones. I recommend getting a router.

A modem connection is much safer than that of a router. With what you have, I think you're pretty much well safe.

Just remember, in networks there is no such thing as a secure networking.
You have sufficient software protection, the only other thing to do is make sure file and printer sharing is turned off in the network settings. If you want to really get parpnoid, encrypt all files with a strong password.
Since you don't have a router, you don't have a wireless signal floating around for people to use. Cable is probably the most secure source of internet, and you have decent security software. So your home network should be secure.
Not familiar with the last one, and last time I checked, Comodo firewall was still beta.

All that notwithstanding, your protection is only as good as your configuration of any tools you have.

Not only that , but it is critically important that you are up to date on all software versions you use, including the above and your operating system, and also your anti-virus definitions.

Still there are no guarantees, but those are some of the basic principles.

After downloading, Click SCAN, and then click TOOLS, then click SOFTWARE EXPLORER. Now your eyes must be quick to spot the extension name of that software. Once you have found it then click REMOVE. Finished.

Restart your PC again to refresh it.
