i was loading an update from Norton Antivirus and eventually it asked me if i want to delete quartinteed files. i said yes because i thought it was items that were set aside from antivirus programs. eventually i got a blue screen with alot of writing on it including the words "memory dump complete". when i start the computer, i get an all black screen with the words "read disc error. hit cntl-alt-del to try again". i do and get the same message. its trying to read a disc, but i dont have one in the drive. did i wipe my computer clean? do i have to reload the software and say goodbye to all the stuff i saved (pics, documents, etc). how can i save my info? please keep it simple as i dont know much about computers. thanks.
Computer problem. i think my computer crashed.?free antivirus download
now fortunetly you are using a PC, you can USE system restore.
set the date to before the crash/error.
then delete Norton anti-virus.. and i mean deleate it. use search after the unstall and delete.
then go to AVG site, and download virus checker and anti spywere
then go to Zone alarm and download the firewall
the download 'spybot search and distroy'
then close all programs, running one at any one time, run all four of your new programs, any difficties ask me
also for extra mesure get spywere docter - do a complete scan.
then you will have a clean PC =]
finaly do a disk de-frag.
(this will take a full day)
just out of interest what are you system specs?
(if you don't know go to right click on my computer and go to the propities tab.)
