Computer wont boot to desktop, please help me!?

i have a brand new computer, been working for 7 weeks without any problems. when i turned it off yesterday it said end now for the process for my firewall, which i recently installed after uninstalling my old firewall and antivirus a week ago, not sure if that has anything to do with it. when i turned it on it went to my desktop and had a small resolution and said new software or hardware found with the wizard thing, and said registry was lost but recovered but my mouse and keyboard didnt work. so i restarted and now it wont even go to my desktop, it only keeps bringing up the screen "new hardware or software found....please select safe mode, normal start up, or start up from last known configuration...: and i try each one, it goes thru the boot screens and brigns this one right back, i cant get to my desktop, what do i do?!?!

Your old firewall corrupted the system's registry. Do a repair installation. Boot your Windows XP CD, and when it asks to install select "Repair this installation", but not the Recovery Console. You have to go to "Install Windows now" and then when it looks for your installed version, just select it and click "repair". It will replace all corrupted system files. If that doesn't work, you need to reformat.
