I was wondering since my friends always tell me that my computer always runs slow because I have many items on my desktop, I think It's just my 333MHZ processor. I keep my computer well maintainted, there are no viruses, adware or spyware, and I have software to clean out cookies and temp files, and I occasionally defragment. If I deleted some stuff will it make the computer run any faster? Oh and I only have about 5 things that run at start up, Norton antivirus, Spyware doctor, WinampAgent, and some windows thingy, and that's it. What could it be?
If you have your hard drive 95% full does it make the computer run any slower than if it was 10% full?kawasaki
There are a lot of variables that can make your computer run slow. Using up great bulk of your hard drive is one, and the other critical aspect is memory. Have a look at your PC's performance by holding the ctrl+ alt+ del if you are using Win XP and click on performance tab. Look at the memory usage, CPU usage, PF usage. All these factor affect your pc's performance.
How much RAM does your system have? if you notice a lot of memory is being used up try not to have so much start up programs! Yes all those start up are eating up your memory.
You don't really need to run all those programs on continous
basis in the background. Modify your start up if it is memory usage that is high. You may also want to consider upgrading your processor.
