Security Update - Critical: AOL - Pop up message - how do I get rid of it?

Like many other people, I am getting the pop up message that says:

Security Update - Critical: AOL has identified a security vulnerability that can be used to execute malicious code. To correct, install this update. You may need to shut down applications and restart your computer. Click here for details.

This happens on both my XP and my Vista machines.

Here's what I do know:

If you run the "update," you get a virus. I tried it on my laptop and had to deal with the "Sunshine Spy" virus.

This pop up does not come from AOL. People get it even when they don't have any AOL software on their machine.

My questions:

Where does the pop up come from?

How do you get rid of it?

Why doesn't Norton Antivirus recognize it as a potential threat and disable it?

Thanks!

The Sunshine Virus comes from AOL/Yahoo/MSN/ messengers, your best bet is to dump Norton because its worthless and does not support any of the newest messengers ,use Mcafee 2008 here is a link for free trials of Mcafee , all there products will block that pop up http://us.mcafee.com/root/downloads.asp?...

This is a valid update: http://help.aol.com/help/dynam...

Although the alert is misleading, it is not a virus. Report It

You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
