I recently just hooked up my office computer with a dsl internet. I know that the pc has viruses and it doesn't have any anti-virus software, so I wanted to download from the net. However, every time I redirect to an "antivirus" website, the internet explorer immediately closes. This happens everytime, even if I tried to download from different sources. Also, whenever I try to open the task manager, it immediately closes too. I know for a fact that this pc has viruses. How to get rid of them??
Thanks.
Help with my computer - virus related?windows
One of the big reasons to have proper security installed from the beginning is that there are some particularly malicious strains of malware out there that are intelligent enough to know that you are attempting to download antivirus software and are intelligent enough to do many things to ensure that you cannot. It is quite possible that you've been infected with one (or more) of these.
If this is the case you may have no choice but to reformat the computer and start from scratch. I would suggest you either do this or take the computer to a shop like bestbuy or a reliable and qualified technician where they can properly assess and resolve the situation with the least amount of daa loss.
Whatever you do I suggest you learn from this experience and INVEST in a proper security suite (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a RELIABLE vendor (like McAfee or Norton) and ensure it is properly configured and kept vigilantly up to date. The same goes for ensuring windows updates are kept current. These two small things along with safe browsing habits and common sense will keep you secure.
